Arconete should be
stored in a dry place, away from moisture or dew, till
is used.
Cements: Ordinary portland cement of standard specifications
should be used. Rapid hardening materials are not advisable.
Aggregate: should be clean , free from impurities and
should be crushed from hard trap, basalt or Granite
stones in size 5 mm. and below (¼" and below).
Water should be clean and without organic contents.
The mixture of Arconete and Cement while in dry state
should be perfect to an even colour, Arconete top coat
should always be laid as a separate and final operation.
Specifications for Topping
Heavy duty floor:
One part of Arconete and four part of cement by weight
, mixed well in dry state, should be added to two parts
of aggregate by bulk. ( Coarse and Fine)
Mix thoroughly again and add necessary quantity of water
to form good consistency.
For one sq. metre of flooring with thickness of about
1 cm. (½") 2 to 3 kgs. of Arconete is required.
Light duty floor:
For light industrial floors, where dust is a bigger
problem than heavy wear and tear, the mixing should
be 1 part of Arconete and 5 parts of cement by weight,
in dry state and the mixture added to two parts or Aggregate
by bulk. For the above purpose, approximately 1.5 to
2 kgs. of Arconete is required per sq. metre of Floor
for a thickness of about 1 cm. (½").
How to apply Arconete
For new work:
When the layer stone cement concrete has been completed
up to within 1 to 1.5 cms, (½"to ¾")
of the final surface level, the Arconete top coat should
be laid over the lower surface with a steel trowel.
On the work where the floor can be laid in one operation
the stone cement concrete can be omitted by bringing
up the floor level to 1 to 1.5 cms. (1 ½"
to ¾") by of the final finished level by
laying Arconete top coat while the base is still WET.
For old work:
Old concrete surface should be removed atleast 5 cms.
(2") deep, and cleaned with a wire brush. Dust
and loose particles should be completely removed. Sprinkle
water on the surface so that it is soaked at least for
12 hours to avoid the absorption of water by old concrete
from new mixture. Just before laying the top coat, remove
all surplus water and spread neat cement grout on the
surface. While Cement grout is still fresh, lay ordinary
stone cement concrete upto the thickness of 1 to 1.5
cms. (½"to ¾") of the final
surface and while this is also still fresh, lay the
top coat of Arconete to the thickness of 1 to 1.5 cms.
(½"to ¾") and smooth the surface
with a Trowel after initial set.
In the alternative, lay Arconete top coat of 5 cms,
(2") thickness in one operation.
Precautions:
For preparing old surface, proper care is necessary
before laying the top coat of Arconete, otherwise the
floor may get cracked or separated.
Dry cement or the mixture of cement and sand should
not be spread directly on the surface to absorb moisture
or to stiffen the floor.
Final Trowelling should not be done till the floor has
initially set and to make sure, see that the pressure
with a finger does not make an indentation.
Curing of Top Coat
Keep the floor treated with Arconete damp with gunny
bags or sand atleast for 5 to 7 days the same is put
to regular use.
Arconete topping does not require specialist for the
job. It can easily be done by a man well experienced
in cement concrete finishing job.
Arconete coating does not effect the setting time of
cement.
Test Results:
Tests have proved that Arconete floor toppings suffer
one third surface wear to ordinary concrete finished
floors.
Water proofing with Arconete
Arconete mixed with Portland Cement:
For water proofing, Brick Work, Concrete, Breze Blocks
or any similar surface which can retain slurry, Arconete
and cement slurry is strongly recommended. It is suitable
for porous and rough surfaces. The method of application
is so easy that it can even be done by unskilled workman,
In many cases, this application saves the cost of
plastering.
After application, when it is dry, the colour shade
will be darker than that of ordinary cement slurry.
To obtain better appearance, decorative finish can
also be applied on the top.
This method is specially recommended for:
- Dams.
- Swimming Pools.
- Docks.
- Sewage Works.
- Water Reservoirs
- Cooling Towers.
- Industrial Floors etc.
Preparatory:
Remove from the surface to be treated, dirt, scale,
lime coating etc. and clean it by thorough brushing.
In case of old brick work, defective joints should
be re-pointed with cement mortar. In dry state mix
one part of Arconete to three part of Portland cement
by weight. The mixture can be prepared in quantity
but it should be kept perfectly dry. Take a quantity
of dry mixture required for the immediate use and
add water slowly till a thick paste is formed.
How to apply:
Before application, soak the surface to be treated.
Apply with brush the thick layer of the prepared as
above. thoroughly well. Ascertain all holes are well
filled. Keep slurry well stirred.
On a good surface where the slurry can be applied
thick enough one coat may prove sufficient, but on
the jobs like Dams, Swimming Pools, Water where there
is a constant water pressure , two coats are recommended.
Avoid quick drying of slurry by sprinkling of water,
Every-day after use, clean brushes, buckets etc. thoroughly.
Approximately one square metre area can be covered
in 0.5 kgs. of Arconete and 1.5 kgs. of Portland cement
(Single coat).
Packing:
Arconete can be had in 50 kgs. Sound packings. Remember,
Arconete means perfect wear proof, grease proof and
dust less floorings.
